[ARCHIVED] Planned Shutdown of Tertiary Process

CoMag RAS valve replacement

The Town of Billerica WRRF is doing a planned shut down of our tertiary process today to replace a leaking valve. The estimated time for this job is approx. 4 hours. We plan on starting around 930am and ending around 130pm. Our NPDES number is MA0101711. We estimate at our current flow that 500,000 gallons will not go thru our tertiary process. We still will meet all of our permit requirements as the flow will still get ALL necessary biological treatment and chlorination/dechlorination as required in our permit. The Town of Billerica discharges to the Concord River.

As required by the new regulations, I am required to put the following statements in this release,

Precautionary measures to be taken by the public, including  avoid contact with these water bodies for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.

The discharge of overflow consists, or likely consists of untreated or partially treated sewerage and waste.
