Peggy Hannon Rizza Park Project
March 2023
The Town will be holding the ribbon cutting ceremony for PHR on Friday, March 31st at 5:15PM. The Town will hold a ceremony prior to the first boys’ and girls’ lacrosse game of the season. It will conclude with a ceremonial coin toss by the Select Board and Building Committee!
December 2022
The field portion of the project is 95% complete. The parking lot lights are operational, and the topcoat has gone down. Most of the furniture and exercise equipment is on site and secured in its permanent place. The rest will be installed this spring. The snack shack is weather tight and prepared for the winter elements. CDI, the construction team working on the snack shack, will continue on the inside of the structure throughout the winter. Students from the Shawsheen Technical School have been on site to build a shed for storage and a smaller shed for gaming storage.

The PHR project is moving along rapidly. The turf has been installed and Quirk Construction began stitching in the inlays – the yard lines and field markers. The sports equipment has been delivered and installation should take place shortly. Carpenters from Shawsheen Tech were on site working on the storage shed, it’s close to completion and will be a great addition to the site.
September 2022
PHR complex is coming together. The sod has been installed for both softball fields. The irrigation system is up and running – it is connected to the municipal water supply, however the project is installing two wells for irrigation of this field complex without taxing the Town supply. Over the next few weeks, the turf will be installed as well as the bleachers around the field. The storage containers for supplies have been installed and will soon be painted to better shield them. The exercise equipment has been delivered and installation should begin soon. The foundation for the Bubba Shack has been poured and the rebar installed.
July 2022
Soil blending has been completed; excess soil has been relocated on site to further assist with leveling. Turf curbing around the field has been poured, and the outdoor sports lighting fixtures have been erected. Take a look at the picture here for an updated view of the site.
May 2022
Peggy Hannon Rizza Park continues to move at a high speed. The buildings have been demoed and sewer work is taking place on Ed Hayes Way. Currently the project is working its way through soil composition issues. The current makeup of the soil does not have enough compost matter for the natural grass. The contractor and the Town’s soil consultant have been going back and forth over the past two weeks to get the mixture right. This is not an unusual problem on field projects and should be resolved in the next few weeks. The concrete pad has also been poured for Shawsheen Tech. They were given the go ahead this week to begin construction of the enlarged storage shed.
March 2022
Site mobilization has started earlier than expected. Quirk Construction recently moved a trailer onto the site and have started to fence in the construction area. They are looking to get started quickly. They have laid out an aggressive timeline that the Town hopes they will be able to meet. This was a change of pace from our other building projects where the contractors desire has been to move a little slower.
