The Train Station is located at the intersection with Mount Pleasant Street and Billerica Avenue. Because this is an important commuter destination, the need for proper pedestrian accessibility to this location was needed. The project provided a new concrete sidewalk with granite curbing along Mount Pleasant Street, Faulkner Street, Station Street and Ruggles Street, to interconnect and provide proper pedestrian access to the train station, the Mills on Faulkner Street, and the Rogers Street and High Street neighborhoods.
The project addressed an on-going drainage problem on Mount Pleasant Street under the Railroad bridge. Significant storm events often times prompted the closing of the roadway due to flooding. The existing subdrain system was not functioning, and failed to collect groundwater. A new subdrain and drainage structures were installed as part of the project to resolve the problem.
The following roads, or a portion of, were paved as part of this work:
Billerica Ave,
Doris Ave,
Faulkner St,
High St,
Mount Pleasant St,
Ruggles St,
Station St.
